“Our ability to comprehend the Essence of
Perfection suffers forever under the constraints of our own
imperfection.”

James A McKee is a Bahá’í, sculptor of stone, and a tradesperson who lives in rural British Columbia. We set agendas for our lives, often without much forethought. In this age of mutually assured destruction, each of us is called upon to do two things to facilitate collective survival. The first is to nurture individual conscience. The second is to synchronize our own conscience with that of everyone else. Once attuned to a global conscience, we may each reflect on our previous agenda to determine, objectively, whether or not it is compatible with our new worldview. If the agenda is found lacking, we are better off discarding it if we ever hope to achieve global unity. When hearts can no longer bear the heavy burden of hate, when lying is as repulsive as thievery, when hurting others becomes unthinkable, when sex is neither bought nor sold nor exchanged at the cost of dignity, and when love is never withheld, we can each rightfully proclaim that we’ve finally gotten the point. The need for repetitive misery throughout our lives as a teaching tool will be greatly diminished and we can preoccupy ourselves with behaviour that is infinitely more conducive to inspired, purposeful existence.
